How to Get to Sunshine City
How to access Sunshine City by train and bus: https://sunshinecity.jp/en/information/access.html
From Ikebukuro Station East Exit (Or Exit Number 35):
Walk along Sunshine Street (about 8–12 minutes) in most cases just following the crowd down the first street, past a crosswalk, and toward the main street.
Follow the signs marking “Sunshine City” until you reach one of the main entrances marked by a large TV screen advertising the latest events and attractions inside.
This will be directly next to a large Nitori building and lead to a series of escalators. Take them down to the underground passage and this will funnel straight into the main Sunshine City complex. This is a great route to take to avoid the busy outdoor crowds and to keep shelter from inclement weather.
For families who need elevator accessibility there is one just to the left of the escalators that can be hard to miss. Just take a step away from the stream of people heading toward the escalators and you’ll find the elevator to the side.
Sunshine City and all of its connected attractions and shops are located indoors so it’s a perfect spot to visit for any length of time when you want to beat the hot, cold, or rainy weather.
Top Otaku & Character Shops Inside Sunshine City Sunshine City is a paradise for anime, game, and character lovers. Here are the must‑visit spots:
Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo & Pokémon Sweets One of Japan’s largest Pokémon Centers. Exclusive merchandise, plushies, trading cards, and seasonal goods. Pokémon Sweets offers themed desserts and drinks. Because long lines often form at the entrance, visiting early in the morning or later in the evening is recommended. Families with children usually leave around those times, so you can shop more comfortably.

Quick Local Tips for Visiting Sunshine City
• Women’s restrooms tend to get crowded and have long wait times so plan accordingly. Like you may have already experienced at highly populated or busy areas in Japan, the lines can be quite long for the restroom. There are several located within the mall so be sure to check the map and plan accordingly around peak times like lunch and dinner, weekends and events.
• The main elevator to the aquarium tends to be very busy so we recommend using the middle elevators. Most families tend to gather at the main elevators for the aquarium and planetarium since they are the largest ones. However we have never waited more than a couple minutes for the middle elevators on each floor. One of them is a service elevator for staff so it’s quite large and accommodating for families with strollers or those who need elevator access.
• There are many family friendly spots so the mall tends to get crowded in the middle of the day. With popular spots like the Sunshine Aquarium, Namjatown, and the Pokémon Center, visiting early in the morning or in the evening offers a much more comfortable experience. Try to avoid arriving right around lunch time or plan your visit accordingly and brace for crowds.
