I admittedly only got to play a single demo while running around the Tokyo Game Show this year and while it was also arguably one of the quickest it was very fun and I have zero regrets.
I happened upon the DMM Games booth toward the end of wandering through the main game showcase halls and I was tired but immediately recognized the colorful cast of Touken Ranbu characters chibified miniaturized.
The staff eagerly beckoned me in saying there was no wait for the new smartphone game and I could hardly pass up the chance.
Not to mention I remembered that the first thing I saw when I arrived at JR Kaihin Makuhari Station I saw the advertisements for the game everywhere. It felt like a fun little twist of fate I just happened upon the booth at the event after all.
The booth was so cute and filled with so many Touken Ranbu characters. It reminded me of what makes the series so popular and I can already imagine fans excitedly collecting their favorite sword husbands in chibi form.
There were so many other details I missed but thankfully I have other fans who picked up on the finer details.
Dengeki Online also had great pictures of the booth before any attendees were playing the demo so you can clearly see the artwork.
The front display showed the demo gameplay and while it was very simple and cute I felt like it was the perfect kind of puzzle game flavor I’ve been missing lately.
My demo station was set up next to Yamatonokami Yasusada. I am happy to report that I passed the demo level though admittedly I would have felt a bit embarrassed had I not since I do play a lot of puzzle games of similar flavors. As an offshoot game to Touken Ranbu I think it’s a smart and accessible choice that opens things up to returning fans of the series and to new ones who may have never tried Touken Ranbu before. I definitely will be playing day one as I had already signed up on the waitlist a while back.
I pulled it up to get the cute little balloon from the staff and even they were surprised when I was already preregistered since I had fumbled trying to locate it on the store. By the way the balloon is an absolute hit with our little one. Nothing beats a toy that doubles as a shaker.
As for the other goodies from the booth I got the cute uchiwa with the main game artwork and of course stickers which means it was time to see how my gacha luck panned out!

I didn’t know at the time but the game is set to release on Thursday, September 24 so in just three more days! If you’re a Touken Ranbu fan or a fan of puzzle games be sure to check it out since there will be lots of in-game goodies to commemorate the release.
